Thought for the day

"But certainly for the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, the appearance to the essence . . . only illusion is sacred, truth has become profane. Nay, sacredness is held to be enhanced in proportion as truth decreases and illusion increases, so that the highest degree of illusion comes to be the highest degree of sacredness." -- Ludwig Feuerbach, (1804-1872), Preface to the second edition of The Essence of Christianity"Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber." -- Plato

The counter-offensive ordered by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has destroyed the country that was entrusted to him, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel on Tuesday.

"Zelensky’s counter-offensive has had a counterproductive effect on Ukraine. The bloodstained Kiev-based joker from the stacked deck of cards of the United States destroyed the country and the people that were entrusted to him," Zakharova said.

House Democrats on the Oversight Committee on Tuesday voted against a Republican resolution that would have ordered President Joe Biden’s administration to turn over documents about Hunter Biden’s business deals.

The “resolution of inquiry,” led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the top Republican on the Oversight Committee, would have ordered Biden’s administration to provide a plethora of documents about the Biden family’s overseas business deals, including those involving the president’s son, Hunter.

Although all 19 Republicans voted in favor of the resolution, 23 Democrats voted to kill the resolution after just two hours of debate, according to CNN.

Comer accused the Biden family of peddling “access to the highest levels of government to enrich themselves,” CNN reported.

“If the Democrats vote against this resolution, then they are continuing in their coordinated effort to shield a potentially compromised President from necessary congressional oversight,” Comer said. “We must shed light on the Biden family’s international business schemes to determine if there is a national security threat.”

Leadership of Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as liberated Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions made a decision Tuesday to hold referendums on accession to the Russian Federation in response to address of the civil movements. The vote in all four regions will take place on September 23-27.

Donbass is interested in the legitimacy of the accession referendum procedure, and in their approval by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, LPR envoy to Russia Rodion Miroshnik said Tuesday. Representatives of the media, including foreign ones, will be invited to the referendum, and the regions also requested organizational aid from Russia and other states.

According to a phone poll, carried out by the National Institute for Opinion Surveys and Marketing (INSOMAR) on September 19 among 4,000 respondents, LPR’s accession is supported by 83% of residents, DPR’s accession is backed by 80%, while 72% and 65% of respondents favor accession in Zaporozhye and Kherson Regions, correspondingly.

On September 20, the State Duma of the Russian Federation approved amendments to the draft law on amendments to the Russian Criminal Code, which proposes to consider periods of mobilization, martial law and wartime aggravating circumstances in the case of a crime. The bill was passed unanimously.

Amendments are made to paragraph “l” of Article 63 of the Russian Criminal Code which explains circumstances aggravating punishment. Such circumstances are described as follows: “the commission of a crime in a state of emergency, a natural or other public disaster, as well as during mass riots, in conditions of armed conflict or military operations.”

In addition, the amendments introduce several new articles of the Criminal Code: “Voluntary surrender” (art. 352.1) and “Looting” (art. 356.1).

In case of surrender a detainee may face from three to ten years in prison, if there are no signs of treason. The draft law states that “a serviceman who has committed a crime under this article for the first time may be released from criminal liability if he has taken measures for his release, returned to the unit or to the place of service and has not committed other crimes during his captivity.”

The article “Looting” (Article 356.1) has been amended to provide for imprisonment for up to 15 years. At the same time, it is proposed to consider the commission of a crime “during the period of mobilization or martial law, in wartime” (Article 63) as aggravating circumstances.

Once again, the issue of US military biolabs in Ukraine gained international attention. Russian officials made reports at a recent summit in Geneva pointing to more crimes that would have been committed by Western forces in Ukraine, including evidence of biological experiments on poor citizens in socially vulnerable situations. In fact, the silence of international organizations about American biolaboratories is already intolerable and measures need to be taken as soon as possible.

At a recent meeting of the member states of the Biological Weapons Convention in Geneva, representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation presented documents containing the results of their investigations into US biolabs in Ukraine. According to statements by the head of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the representatives of the member states of the Convention were convinced with the evidence presented by Russia, and therefore there are apparently no doubts about the illegal conduct of the part of the US.

“The participants of the meeting received copies of real documents previously mentioned by the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as material evidence confirming the implementation of work on military-biological programs in Ukraine, for consideration”, he said during a press conference.

The usage of weapons of mass destruction in a conflict hasn’t happened since August 9, 1945, when the United States of America dropped the second atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki (the first one destroyed Hiroshima just three days prior), killing tens of thousands of civilians in seconds. With well over a thousand tests, the US is also infamous for detonating the largest number of atomic and thermonuclear weapons in history. And yet, the belligerent thalassocracy is also known for using weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) as a pretext to launch wars of aggression and invasions against dozens of sovereign countries, supposedly to prevent the usage of such weapons in war. The most prominent example of this must be Iraq, which the US and its numerous satellite states have attacked multiple times under this pretext. Iraqi WMDs were never found, although the US still insists that the destruction of the Middle Eastern country was supposedly justified.

Even though virtually the entire world knows that the US accusations against Iraq were based on false claims, America seems determined to continue using this pretext when attacking others. It has been accusing Syria of using chemical weapons for over a decade now, all without solid proof and has even directly attacked the country and its security forces under this pretext. In addition to Syria, the US-led political West is making the same allegations against Russia. Since February 24, the US and its numerous vassals have been accusing Moscow of using chemical weapons during its special military operation against the Neo-Nazi junta in Kiev. Western state and corporate-run mainstream media have been spinning this narrative for months, especially in April and May. However, US President Joe Biden has upped the ante and effectively accused Russia of planning to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

On Sunday, September 18, during a “60 Minutes” interview, Joe Biden “issued a warning” to his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin, to “not change the face of war” by supposedly “using either tactical nuclear or chemical weapons” against the Kiev regime forces. “Don’t. Don’t. Don’t. You will change the face of war unlike anything since World War II,” the US president stated while speaking to CBS interviewer Scott Pelley.

Ukrainians who fled the Russian invasion of the country to Sweden are increasingly leaving the Scandinavian country, claiming that barriers to work and language issues are preventing them from supporting themselves.

Around 45,000 Ukrainians have applied for refugee status in Sweden since the start of the Russian invasion according to the Swedish Migration Agency but already at least 4,000 have either left the country to try and settle elsewhere and seek asylum or have simply returned to their home country despite the ongoing conflict.

Nataliia Volkova, a 62-year-old woman who fled Kyiv at the start of March stated that the Swedish Migration Agency made it clear to her that she was expected to support herself financially, something she claims to have found increasingly difficult.

French President Emmanuel Macron has proposed an overhaul of immigration and asylum policies that would include redistributing migrants to rural areas facing population decline. He condemned the current policies as “inefficient and inhumane,” announcing on Thursday that the matter would be put to a vote at the start of next year.

Explaining the rationale behind the resettlement program, Macron reasoned that “the conditions for their reception will be much better than if we put them in areas that are already densely populated, with a concentration of massive economic and social problems.” Putting new arrivals in sparsely populated areas would help them “integrate much faster and much better,” he said, especially those who already have vocational skills or some command of the language.

The current policy, however, is “absurd,” he said, because it “consists of putting women and men who arrive, who are in the greatest misery” in the poorest and most crowded neighborhoods.

Rural areas are “losing population,” he said, a trend immigrant families – which typically have more children than European families – could reverse, avoiding the need to shut down schools and colleges due to lack of enrollment.

Pakistan has a young and growing entrepreneurial population, with English as the main language for business, but inflation, as well as the recent political turmoil and devastating floods, are making it difficult for industries to flourish.

Tension among Pakistan’s business community is on the rise following unprecedented inflation caused by multiple factors, including COVID-19, monsoon floods and political instability.

Despite recent improvements in the business environment, many problems remain an issue for companies operating in Pakistan. Pakistan had previously climbed 28 places to 108 out of 190 countries ranked on the ease of doing business by the World Bank’s 2020 Doing Business report.

Considering that the country has a young population, with English as the main language for business, there are plenty of opportunities due to the expanding middle class which has a keen eye for imported goods and services.

Foreign retail and franchise outlets are also spreading rapidly in urbanized cities and the country has a natural endowment in agriculture and minerals.

They surely got one now:

In a nationwide address on Wednesday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial military mobilization. He explained that the Defense Ministry has recommended drawing military reservists into active service, as the country faces a protracted conflict in Ukraine and Donbass. The measure is sensible and necessary under the circumstances, Putin stated, adding that he has already signed an order for the call-up to start immediately. The Armed Forces will draw on military reservists only, and those who have completed national service, the president added. He promised that they will be provided with additional training along with all the benefits due to people involved in active duty.

It is, of course, a planned action preceding referenda of four oblast (regions) of former Ukraine to join Russia, which they will join most likely by the 1st of October and will need troops stationed at the new borders of Russian Federation while the further roll towards Nikolaev and Odessa commences. Kharkov could be the target too.

For those who still drink Kiev regime Kool Aid, Shoigu today went on record and stated the number of KIAs of Russian forces since the start of SMO (in Russian)--it is 5, 937 KIAs. Shoigu also stated that number of VSU KIAs is counted as 61,207 per Russian (usually very conservative) estimates. It was also confirmed that Kremlin refused to speak to Macron after his call to Moscow today (in Russian)--there is nothing to talk about with Europe. I am sure they are preparing new "package" of sanctions, like... like... not buying Russian... beer or something. To give a bit of a context to all that:

All eyes are on the Federal Reserve as the central bank kicks off a two-day policy meeting Tuesday, as officials are widely expected to raise short-term interest rates by three-quarters of a percentage point at the conclusion of their meeting Wednesday. In the face of stubborn inflation, officials are expected to raise the central bank’s benchmark interest rate — the federal funds rate — to a new range of 3.0% to 3.25% from a current range of 2.25 to 2.50%. This would mark the third-straight 75-basis-point rate hike since June, bringing rates to their highest level since 2008.

On Saturday he held a Save America rally in Youngstown, Ohio where he gave a dire warning to the Democrats.

“They have no idea of the sleeping giant that they have awoken,” the president said. “The American people will never accept the corruption and the ruination of our beloved country, and that’s what they want to do.”

He said that on Nov. 8, “we are going to vote in record numbers, and we are going to send these left-wing lunatics a message: They cannot cancel, silence, or ignore … all the abuse, all the smears, and all the attacks will not dissuade us. They will only make us stronger, much stronger. Much much stronger.”

He said he is not concerned about what Democrats are doing to attempt to stop him and promised to keep fighting them.

“No matter what our sick and deranged political establishment throw at me, no matter what they do to me, I will endure their torment and oppression, and I will do it very willingly.

“They will never get me to stop fighting for you, the American people. And I will never quit because the fate of our country is at stake,” he said.

It hasn’t been a month since President Biden mounted the steps of Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, declaring it his duty to ensure each of us understands the central faction of his political opposition are extremists that “threaten the very foundations of our Republic.” Flanked by the uniformed icons of his military and standing atop a Leni Riefenstahl stage, the leader clenched his fists to illustrate seizing the future from the forces of “fear, division, and darkness.” The words falling from the teleprompter ran rich with the language of violence, a “dagger at the throat” emerging from the “shadow of lies.”

“What’s happening in our country,” the President said, “is not normal.”

Is he wrong to think that? The question the speech intended to raise—the one lost in the unintentionally villainous pageantry—is whether and how we are to continue as a democracy and a nation of laws. For all the Twitter arguments over Biden’s propositions, there has been little consideration of his premises.

Democracy and the rule of law have been so frequently invoked as a part of the American political brand that we simply take it for granted that we enjoy both.

Are we right to think that?

In Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, he won the Hispanic vote over Mitt Romney by 40 percentage points — 70 percent to 30 percent, according to Catalist, a political research firm. Four years later, Hillary Clinton did even better, beating Donald Trump by 42 percentage points among Hispanic voters.

But then something changed.

The economy became even stronger at the start of Trump’s presidency than it had been during Obama’s. The Democratic Party moved further to the left than it had been under Obama. Trump turned out to have a macho appeal, especially to some Hispanic men. And some Hispanic voters became frustrated with the long Covid shutdowns.

Whatever the full explanation, Hispanic voters have moved to the right over the past several years. As a group, they still prefer Democrats, but the margin has narrowed significantly. In 2020, Joe Biden won the group by only 26 percentage points. And in this year’s midterms, the Democratic lead is nearly identical to Biden’s 2020 margin, according to the latest New York Times/Siena College poll — a sign that the shift was not just a one-election blip:

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has announced a partial military mobilization in the Russian Federation, according to the Tass news agency.

In a televised address, Putin said he had signed a decree on partial mobilization, due to begin on Wednesday, stressing that he was taking necessary steps to protect Russia's sovereignty as the West is looking to "weaken" and "destroy" the country.

“We are talking about partial mobilization, that is, only citizens who are currently in the reserve will be subject to conscription, and above all, those who served in the armed forces have a certain military specialty and relevant experience,” Putin said.

The decision to partially mobilize is “fully adequate to the threats we face, namely to protect our homeland, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, to ensure the security of our people and people in the liberated territories,” he added.

The Russian president said his aim was to "liberate" east Ukraine's Donbas region, and that most people in the region did not want to return to what he called the "yoke" of Ukraine.

Former President Donald Trump discovered the dirty secret of the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago residence when he visited his Florida home.

“I’ll soon be heading to the scene of the unwarranted, unjust, and illegal Raid and Break-In of my home in Florida, Mar-a-Lago. I’ll be able to see for myself the results of the unnecessary ransacking of rooms and other areas of the house,” the former president said on his Truth Social account.

“It has already been proven that so much has been wrongfully taken, it is not a ‘pretty thing.’ So sad! The 4th Amendment, and much more, has been totally violated, a grave invasion of privacy. I will keep the American public informed on TRUTH!” he said.

The Biden administration has quietly perpetuated the state of ‘national emergency’ that was initiated after the 9/11 attacks, which were carried out by Islamic terrorists twenty-one years ago this month. On Tuesday, the White House declared the alleged ongoing state of national emergency by referring to the 2001 terror attacks:

The actions of persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.  For this reason, the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13224 of September 23, 2001, as amended, and the measures adopted to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond September 23, 2022.  Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency with respect to persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism declared in Executive Order 13224, as amended.

The perpetuation of the national emergency comes amid accusations by rank-and-file FBI agents that the Biden administration is “exaggerating the threat of White supremacists and pressuring agents to cook up domestic terrorist cases involving racist extremists.”

Webmaster addition: For the record; I am not a terrorist. I am annoying, irritating, and obnoxious, but I am not a terrorist! More like an irratist!

DeSantis was asked by a reporter to comment on harsh criticism from across the aisle accusing him of "human trafficking" for flying approximately 50 migrants to Martha's Vineyard, a famous stronghold of wealthy Democrats.

The use of face masks in classrooms made “no significant difference” in COVID-19 infection rates, according to a new study.

A cohort of researchers from several universities and hospitals in Spain came to the conclusion by analyzing COVID-19 transmission rates, age, and the mandated use of face masks in classrooms across the region of Catalonia.

The study – “Unravelling the Role of the Mandatory use of Face Covering Masks for the Control of SARS-CoV-2 in Schools: a Quasi-Experimental Study Nested in a Population-Based Cohort in Catalonia (Spain)” – compiled data from 1,907 schools with a total of 599,314 pupils during the first term of the 2021 academic year. It was included in August’s edition of the peer-reviewed journal Archives of Disease in Childhood, which is a part of the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Group.

Though COVID-19 variants such as Omicron occurred outside of the timeframe of the study, researchers maintain it is “unlikely that the effectiveness of the mask mandate measure will increase with a more transmissible variant.”

Afederal appeals court has reversed a lower court ruling ordering the Republican National Committee to comply with a subpoena from the House Jan. 6 committee, poking the Democrat-led investigation for vacillating on key issues and acknowledging there were "important and unsettled constitutional questions" about whether the panel is lawfully constituted.

The U.S. Circuit Court for Appeals or the District of Columbia said it was dismissing the case because the Jan. 6 committee withdrew the subpoena to the RNC seeking records of its dealings with a digital fund-raising vendor Salesforce.

"The RNC's appeal has become moot," the appeals court ruled in dismissing the case.

The US Department of Justice would like Congress to amend laws governing asset forfeiture, so money confiscated from Russian “kleptocrats” can be given to Ukraine, the head of the interagency sanctions task force Andrew Adams told the Senate on Tuesday while testifying at a hearing called “Tightening the Screws on Russia.”

Adams, formerly a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), is the head of the interagency Task Force KleptoCapture, a sanctions enforcement outfit created in February. The “scope, intended impact, and international alignment” of the anti-Russia sanctions are “without precedent,” he told senators.

Among the proposals he listed at the hearing was a pitch for Congress to amend the existing US asset forfeiture laws, in order to allow the government to “remediate harms caused to Ukraine by Russia’s war of aggression,” as Adams put it.
